The District
Woodland Community Unit District #5 serves approximately 575
Pre-K
through high school students at one central facility located one mile
east of Illinois Route 23 on Illinois Route 17.(Map) The district is
located in the northwestern corner of Livingston County, with a small
parcel of land in La Salle County.
Just over half of the students reside in South Streator, the
unincorporated part of the City of Streator. Streator is located
in LaSalle county and has separate school districts. The remainder
of the students come from rural areas, subdivisions, and small
communities of Long Point, Ancona, and Manville. Woodland does
have its own community identification and pride.
Woodland is regarded as a local school in the Streator
Community. While considered a small school, the curriculum offers
the necessary basics, and those extras which it can afford. The
education program does allow for the individual needs of all students
with academic and recreational opportunities for building lifetime
skills.
The Education System
Woodland is a Unit School District, meaning that the entire
educational system is governed by one board of education elected by the
voters of the district. All grades are housed in one large
building, with separate wings for an elementary school, junior high
school, and high school.
